My name is Kimberly Glover. At the age of 17, I was diagnosed with Lymphedema. This is my story.
Like most Lymphedema patients, I was initially misdiagnosed. After visiting over 10 different physicians, I was told I have both Primary and Secondary Lymphedema.
Primary Lymphedema occurs when lymph vessels are unable to adequately drain lymph fluid from an arm or leg and causes swelling. Secondary Lymphedema is caused by another disease, condition or trauma of the affected limb. I had surgery on the left side of my body 2-3 years before any symptoms surfaced.
Lymphedema affects each individual differently. Not only are the side effects unique to each person, but it can also take on a physical and emotional toll in varying degrees.
With this blog, Keep It Movin’, DC or KIMDC, I will take you on my personal journey of living life with Lymphedema, and will educate, inform and advocate for Lymphedema Awareness.
This platform will also be used to help raise funds for those suffering with Lymphedema, who may need financial assistance with wrapping supplies and compression garments to adequately control the symptoms. I invite you to join me in this effort to motivate and Keep It Movin’.
With Gratitude,
Kimberly Glover
